The Phantom T2540 by Vision Research is a high-performance imaging solution designed to meet the demands of scientific research and industrial applications. With an advanced back-side illuminated (BSI) sensor, high sensitivity, exceptional frame rates, and a range of configurable options, the T2540 offers a future proof and robust design.

The Phantom T2540 is equipped with a 4.2-megapixel back-side illuminated (BSI) sensor, built to for image clarity in challenging environments. The custom BSI sensor is manufactured by Vision Research specifically for the Phantom series. The BSI design shifts the sensing side of the sensor to the back in order to eliminate the occlusions caused by wire connections and metal pads on the front side, increasing the photon collecting area (fill-factor) and subsequently making it considerably more sensitive.

The T2540 sensor features a resolution of 2560 x 1664, a quantum efficiency (QE) of 85.4% (mono), and a dynamic range (DNR) of 52dB, the T2540 ensures high-fidelity high-speed image capture with minimal distortion or interference.

The T2540 captures at over 5,840 frames per second (fps) at full resolution. At reduced resolutions, the camera achieves an exceptional maximum frame rate of 277,770 fps at 1280 x 64 pixels, and so excels in applications requiring precise temporal analysis, enabling researchers and engineers to analyse rapid events with unprecedented detail.

The T2540 offers several customisable options. These include a CineMag interface for expanded data storage, and an ultra-fast exposure option that enables exposure times as low as 250 nanoseconds (ns). Additionally, users may select up to 256GB of RAM to accommodate extended recording durations, ensuring comprehensive data acquisition.

The Phantom T2540 incorporates intelligent features such as image-based auto-trigger (IBAT), multi-Cine partitions, and continuous recording amongst others. These functionalities enable automated data capture while minimizing manual intervention and providing absolute reliability of capture in valuable destructive testing applications. Additionally, a programmable I/O allows easy synchronization with data acquisition (DAQ) systems and other measurement tools.

Applications
Impact Testing
The Phantom T2540 empowers users with an extremely reliable solution for tasks related to impact and crash testing applications.

Shockwave Analysis
Due to the extremely high frame rates that the Phantom T2540 offers, the camera has the ability to capture moments that are invisible to the human eye.

Combustion
Combustion applications often have unique difficulties that need to be overcome. Aside from being exceptionally fast events they often have lighting issues as they quickly fluctuate between being very dark and very bright. Phantom cameras have features that aid researchers in dealing with these issues.

Droplet Analysis / PIV
Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) or droplet analysis, is a research method that allows scientists to observe the flow of air, water, and other invisible elements. Phantom cameras are equipped with high-resolution sensors to make particle tracking simple.

Ballistics research
With high light sensitivity to eliminate motion blur and incredibly high frame rates, it makes it perfectly suited to ballistics e.g. gunshot analysis or explosives etc.
