JAI decision to produce GigE cameras with SFNC conformity

From July, 2010, all JAI gigE cameras will be released conforming to the Genlcam SFNC (Standard Function Naming Convention) Version 1.2 standard. The decision was taken due to the widespread use of this standard.

What are the implication for me as the result of this adoption?
The main difference between the original JAI GigE cameras and those that now conform to the SFNC standard, lies in the acquisition and trigger and in the exposure-time control facilities.

If you are replacing an existing camera with an SFNC-compliant GigE camera, changes to the function name and the setting method will need to be made to your current software in accordance with SFNC conformity. Full details are available via pdf. This document will explain, in detail, the differences between the new JAI GigE Vision cameras trigger setup compared with the original, proprietary method.

Will my currently-deployed cameras co-exist with any new ones I may choose to add to the same configuration?
The SFNC standard cameras will not co-exist with any non-conforming cameras currently in use. So what do I do? If there is a decision to expand/update your camera deployment, please speak to Adept for advice on how best to maximise functionality and benefit from the change-over without unduly disrupting your workflow.

What if I want to add a new, conforming camera but prefer to have it work with my existing system?
If you choose to acquire a new SFNC-conforming GigE camera but need it to co-exist with non-conforming cameras, rather than upgrade all of them, a "downgrade" tool will be made available on the Jai web site. This downgrade tool returns SFNC-conforming cameras to the original, conventional JAI GigE camera.

Are there any JAI GigE cameras that do not conform to SFNC standard?
The CV-A10GE, CV-A70GE and the CV-M9GE do not conform and, for those cameras, it is business as usual.
