Teledyne Dalsa Unveils Sherlock 8.30.00 with expanded tools for 3D Machine Vision and AI Integration

Teledyne Dalsa has released it latest revision Sherlock 8.30.00, a no-code software development tool for programmers to design and deploy sophisticated machine vision solutions with ease. Sherlock provides the programming structure that a Computer Programmer or PLC Programmer feels comfortable with, and so non-programmers can easily pick it up. There is no “coding” as such, instead tools can be selected and configured by pointing and clicking the mouse and programming constructs such as control loops also added with ease and without code. Sophisticated inspections can be built and tested quickly and efficiently.

Sherlock 8.30.00 is being introduced with Z-Trak™ 3D Apps Studio, a revamped 3D measurement interface that enables more complex and precise 3D inspections. New 3D tools include:

• New 3D tools for flat, curved, and circular parts.

• Thickness measurement tool for ensuring component accuracy.

• Bead profile analysis to measure path, volume, and key location data.

• Improved measurement integrity when working with multiple sensors.

• Reflection elimination to reduce interference and enhance precision.

• UniformX_ZR data format to seamlessly integrate 3D and reflectance data.

These tools are helpful in industries like automotive, electronics, and packaging where precise measurements and defect detection are essential. Additionally, Sherlock allows part reflectance images to be processed using its robust 2D machine vision tools, offering a comprehensive approach to quality control.

Sherlock 8.30.00 also includes over 300 optimisations and bug fixes along with new features such as:

• Modular Transfer Function (MTF) tool for measuring lens performance and focus quality.

• DirectShow driver support for greater hardware compatibility.

• MQTT PLC support for seamless industrial communication.

• Import and export of subroutines for streamlined workflow.

For AI-powered inspections, Sherlock 8 integrates smoothly with Astrocyte, Teledyne Dalsa’s AI training tool. Users can easily train and deploy AI models for:

• Classification: Categorising images based on trained examples.

• Object Detection: Locating, classifying, and outlining objects.

• Segmentation: Pixel-level categorisation for feature detection.

• Anomaly Detection: Identifying deviations from known good images.

Astrocyte now supports faster training with Nvidia’s 4000 series GPUs, heatmap and segmentation visualisations, and customisable dataset masks—allowing for smarter, faster AI deployments in industries like pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and logistics.

Importantly, users should note that 3D programs from Sherlock 8.20 are not compatible with 8.30. To access the latest features, transitioning to the Z-Trak 3D Apps Studio is necessary.
