Involving Teledyne DALSA technology
Highlighting the capabilities of their 12-megapixel 4k Falcon2 cameras and Xcelera PX8 frame grabbers, Teledyne DALSA products are being used in a unique application - providing 360-degree replays of professional sports to the viewing public.

And the power and effectiveness of 4k Falcon2 and the Xcelera PX8 frame grabber combination means that all the above can happen without compromising HDTV replay quality.

How does it work?
Two sets of 12, fix-mounted Teledyne DALSA's 4k Falcon2 cameras, capturing at 60 frames-per-second are placed around a stadium (see image left) and the data fed to a computer that manipulates the various image camera angles, so that exact 3D images can be created for the video.

Viewing from an unlimited number of perspectives
Teledyne DALSA's formidable cameras and frame grabbers capture play after which, software creates a three-dimensional, realistic scene in real-time and so enables the viewer to see not only the action from virtually any angle but also to zoom in for a closer look.

(Above) The multi-camera system—two camera setups, each consisting of 12 cameras at opposite ends of the field. This array allows the viewing of replays from every possible camera angle. With this configuration it is possible to rotate the camera’s view around the action, as was done in “The Matrix.”
 
 
 
Falcon2 12M colour camera
Incorporating 12 megapixel resolution and a frame rate of 60 frames-per-second, Falcon2 cameras provide high-speed image capture with superb spacial resolution. Global shuttering removes smear related to rolling shutter CMOS devices.
