Dual Line Scan Available in Colour

Phantom v12 Rear ViewDalsa Spyder3 Colour Dual line-scan camera

DALSA Corporation, a global leader in machine vision technology, is pleased to introduce the Spyder3 Color dual linescan camera to provide high color fidelity, ease of use, and affordable solutions for the fast growing color imaging market. The Spyder3 Color camera is based on DALSA’s successful Spyder3 monochrome models using dual line sensor technology. Dual line scan architecture features two rows of pixels and a higher quantum efficiency tripling image sensor responsivity without shot noise penalty. This is invaluable for line scan applications where integration times are short and typically struggle for enough light intensity.

The Spyder3 Color camera is well-suited to applications where the objects to be inspected are being conveyed, are free-falling or in some way passing by the sensor. The unique design of the Spyder3 allows it to be used cost-effectively for applications where previously more expensive and less sensitive line scan cameras were used. These applications include inspection of food, drug, cotton, textile, wood, tiles, recycle sorting, and other general machine vision applications. Combining DALSA’s patented dual line scan architecture and high quality pigment color filters, the Spyder3 Color provides excellent color quality, reliability and affordability.

The sensor has two side by side rows of pixels; the first row contains Red (R) and Blue (B) pixels, while the second row contains Green (G) pixels only. The camera offers various data output options, including RGB, RG/BG, or G only, to meet different requirements in a wide range of imaging applications. The two adjacent linear arrays have no spacing in between. This eliminates spatial artifacts and results in high color quality, especially when capturing images of rotating or freefalling objects. Useful camera features include: flat field correction, automatic white balance and pre-calibration with common light sources (such as white LEDs).

“With the introduction of the Spyder3 Color, DALSA now offers color line scan cameras that address the full price/performance spectrum. Cost-sensitive applications can rely on the Spyder3 Color, while the Trilinear Piranha Color is available for applications requiring higher speeds. With the Spyder3 Color’s innovative dual line design, our customers are able to capture excellent color images with outstanding noise performance and flexibility while meeting their targets on system costs.” said Xing-Fei He, Senior Product Manager at DALSA.

DALSA’s Spyder3 Color offers 2k and 4k resolutions with a 14x14 µm or 10x10 µm pixel size. It offers both Camera Link and GigE interfaces.

Key features and benefits include:

  • High resolution (2k/14 µm and 4k/10 µm pixel resolution)
  • High throughput (80 Mpixels/sec throughput, max 18k Hz line rate)
  • RGB, RG/BG, or G only color formats
  • Choice of interface (initially a CameraLink interface, with GigE to follow soon)
  • Easy to use
  • Cost-effective
