New
1600x1200 pixel GigE camera from JAI - TM2040GigE
June 2007
JAI's popular and proven range of CCD cameras has a new addition to their
GigE series. The TM2040GE takes the high fidelity front-end circuitry,
low noise power supply and high resolution 1" progressive scan IT
CCD sensor (KAI-2020) from the TM2040CL and fits these to the cost savings
and flexibility of the new GigE vision serial interface standard.
The new high resolution TM2040GE GigE CCD camera offers two-megapixels
(1600 x 1200) and software selectable operation that allows users to use
both single or dual tap modes that produce 17 or 34 frames per second
respectively.
The TM2040GE GigE CCD camera produces high resolution 12-bit linear images,
or 10-bit/8-bit images that are modifiable by a user-defined look-up table
(LUT) for use in difficult lighting situations. It also offers all the
standard benefits of the GigE vision serial interface, including up to
100m cable lengths, data rates to 100 MBps, and cost savings/flexibility
arising from the use of standard Cat 5E or Cat 6 cabling and standard
networking hardware Network Interface Cards and hubs.
Other features of this high resolution GigE CCD camera include image
center partial scanning (600, 300, or 150 lines), as well as variable
partial scanning with which users have the option of choosing the starting
point and the number of lines to be scanned. It also offers a defective
pixel compensation feature that uses neighboring pixels to adjust for
out-of-tolerance pixels.
The TM2040GE is offered in both monochrome and Bayer CFA colour. The
monochrome model enables binning modes which add pixels in horizontal,
vertical or both directions for increased sensitivity. With full frame
shuttering up to 1/32,000 secs, asynchronous reset and no-delay pulse
width control shuttering, this high resolution CCD camera can be applied
to many applications where very precise triggering, high resolution and
speed is paramount.
Another high performance feature of the TM2040GE GigE CCD camera is its
PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) mode enabling the very fast capture of
pairs of images separated by only a few microseconds for particle motion
analysis.
The new TM2040GE GigE high resolution cameras can be widely used in demanding
machine vision applications across a diverse range of industries including
manufacturing, medical, defence and intelligent transportation.
The standard TM-2040GE high resolution camera has a C-mount lens adapter
but is also available with an optional F-mount and M42 mount (P-mount)
for use with large format lenses which will reduce vignetting.
Key product features set this high resolution CCD camera apart:
- Square pixels for ease of visual distance calculations
- 12-bit A/D for high image fidelity
- 10-bit/8-bit output modifiable by a built-in look-up table for improved
handling of high contrast lighting situations.
- Binning and partial scan modes for higher-speed operation, including
user-definable partial scanning allowing users to define any starting
point and any number of scan lines.
- Pixel compensation technology using neighboring pixels to correct
for defective ones, thereby maintaining a cleaner image over a longer
camera lifetime.
- Automatic channel balancing, providing high-speed dual-tap output
with maximum image quality
- A built-in PIV mode able to capture pairs of images a few microseconds
apart for advanced studies of movement in fluids or gases.
Machine vision integrators and machine vision users worldwide now have
access to a greater range of industrial cameras with JAI's TM2040 GigE
range; that combine high resolution features with the ease-of-use GigE
Vision standard interface to deliver a yet once again winning CCD camera.

Dalsa iPD have added another Vision Appliance to their expanding series
of cost-effective easy-to-use vision systems. The new Dalsa iPD VA3X industrial
vision appliance provides end users and systems integrators with a practical
machine vision solution for single or dual camera applications. This DIN
mountable system has been specifically designed to minimize integration
and speed deployment by providing easily accessible control and intuitive
machine vision software setup.
The VA3X fits into the existing range of Dalsa iPD Vision Appliances
with twice the processing power of the VA2X as well as extended onboard
and flash memory capabilities. Its graphical display and memory throughputs
are over three times faster in comparison to the VA2X devices. The VA3X
vision appliance will accept and connect to a wide selection of industrial
vision cameras to a maximum resolution of up to 1375x1135 pixels. Other
improvements include boot-up time and file level protection for O/S.
The VA3X is a dual camera industrial vision appliance. Unlike its traditional
competitive smart camera counterparts, the VA3X vision appliance incorporates
the "smarts" inside the camera controller, as opposed to the
camera head. This has the dual benefit of easier integration; since it
can be positioned in a chassis alongside other automation controllers,
and smaller camera size; thus making it suitable for tight-fit industrial
vision applications. In addition, the built-in dual camera capability
provides a cost-effective solution in multi-industrial vision camera applications.
With the smarts external to the camwera body Dalsa iPD have been able
to pack far more power into their vision appliances than is possible with
competitive smart cameras.
Interfacing the VA3X is a snap. The vision appliance is fully equipped
with industrial grade opto-isolated inputs and outputs that are wired
using removable screw terminal connectors. A visible LED light is coupled
to each connection that reflects the active state of the signal. The I/O
together with all external interfaces, is conveniently accessible on the
front of the vision appliance facing the user. Machine vision application
setup software is preinstalled and ready to run, thus eliminating installation
and revision control problems.
Both variants; the VA30 and VA31 can either be remotely set up via an
Ethernet network connection or be setup locally by connecting a mouse,
keyboard and monitor directly to the VA3X.
Key Fe a t u r e s:
- Compact DIN mountable system
- Easy to setup
- Single or dual camera inspections
- Suitable for tight-fit camera applications
- No software to install
- Powerful embedded processor ensures fast inspection times
- Online or offline inspection
- Quick connect/disconnect wiring
- Easily integrates into factory environments
- Universal solution for end-users, integrators and machine builders
The VA3X offers two distinct machine vision software interfaces, called
iNspect and Sherlock. iNspect provides industrial vision application versatility
and ease-of-use, allowing you to setup and deploy a machine vision solution
in a matter of minutes. For more complex tasks Sherlock provides even
greater flexibility and control, giving you the tools and capabilities
at your fingertips to apply to almost any industrial vision application.
Less integration, quick software setup, multiple cameras... with the

New
high speed 3CCD progressive scan RGB camera with GigE-CVM9 GE
June 2007
JAI's already popular and proven 3CCD high speed camera has taken an
important step into the future. For the first time the new GigE industrial
camera series has accessed the combination of advanced 3CCD RGB colour
vision technology and the easy-to-use GigE Vision standard interface.
The GigE Vision standard interface, together with programmable GPIO (General
purpose input/output ports) used in the high speed camera takes the trouble
out of integrating advanced 3CCD prism colour technology into even the
most demanding machine vision applications.
The new GigE high speed cameras similar to their older counterparts can
be widely used in demanding machine vision applications across a diverse
range of industries. The high speed camera CV-M9GE is suitable for use
in any application where true colour and high fidelity are required along
with ease of integration. Some applications include: print inspection,
food sorting and inspection, flat panel quality verification, medical
diagnostics such as skin screening, agricultural applications and others.
Based on 3CCD prism technology, the high speed camera provides full XGA
(1024 x 768) resolution for each of the Red, Green and Blue colour bands.
The clear spectral separation between the three colour bands gives this
camera the ability to define and detects colours that it is not possible
to do so with a 1CCD colour camera.
The CV-M9GE industrial camera features both manual and automatic one-push
white balance adjustment, making it easy to achieve the correct setting
for a wide range of colour temperatures and under difficult lighting conditions.
Alternatively the white balance can be adjusted by individual shutter
settings in the Red, Green and Blue channels, while maintaining a consistent
and high signal/noise ratio in each channel. Sophisticated colour shading
correction offers a flat field which is often a weak point with low quality
3CCD cameras.
The high speed CV-M9GE can be operated in continuous (free-run) mode
at 30 frames/second or in external trigger mode. The Edge Pre-Select trigger
mode uses a pre-defined exposure time whereas the Pulse Width Control
trigger mode sets the exposure time based on the width of the trigger
pulse.
The high speed CV-M9GE also features a sequencer trigger mode that permits
on-the-fly change of a combination of gain, offset and Region of Interest
(ROI). Another useful industrial camera function is "delayed readout"
where images from simultaneously triggered cameras are read out in sequence
to avoid congestion on the Ethernet interface.
GigE Vision industrial cameras use standard Cat5e or Cat6 cabling and
do not require a dedicated frame grabber in the PC. This translates directly
into cost savings and shorter "time-to-market".
The new Jai GigE CV-M9GE high speed camera's features can be summarised:
- The GigE Vision standard interface for standard Cat5e or Cat6 cabling
up to 100m distances
- Self-describing, easy to use with 3rd party software libraries (GeniCam)
- Programmable GPIO (General purpose input/output ports)
- Standard trigger modes with "pre-select" or "pulse
width" exposure
- Sequencer trigger mode that permits on-the-fly change of a combination
of gain, offset and Region of Interest (ROI).
- Delayed readout" where images from simultaneously triggered cameras
are read out in sequence to avoid congestion on the Ethernet interface.
- Manual and automatic one-push white balance adjustment (CV-M9 GE),
making it easy to achieve the correct setting for a wide range of color
temperatures and under difficult lighting conditions.
Machine vision integrators and machine vision users worldwide for the
first time have access to industrial cameras that combine advanced 3CCD
RGB color vision technology with the easy-to-use GigE Vision standard
interface to deliver a yet once again winning high speed camera.
