How is
vision processor different from a frame grabber?
Vision processors feature powerful embedded processing architecture
for real-time high-performance machine-vision applications. Combining
high-speed image acquisition capability with user programmable FPGAs
(Field Programmable Gate Array) and graphical FPGA development tools,
vision processors deliver unmatched power and flexibility in computer-intensive,
real-time image processing on the PCIe platform.
When
do I need a vision processor? |
|
•
When protecting a custom algorithm IP is paramount |
•
When a real-time, deterministic response is needed |
•
When the processing bandwidth is too high for a PC to handle
|
•
When the system footprint must be reduced (e.g. multiple PCs
are not an option) |
Vision processor and software work
as a team
Teledyne DALSA's Xcelera-CL
VX4 and Sapera
APF deliver a powerful, programmable, FPGA-
(field-programmable gate array) based vision processor and integrated
graphical FPGA development environment enabling users to adopt vision
processors for a variety of high speed, computing intensive, real-time
image processing applications. Accessible
to non-FPGA experts.
The Xcelera-CL VX4 series vision processors is the latest member
of Teledyne DALSA's award winning Xcelera family of frame grabbers
and vision processors and is based on the PCI Express x4 interface.
Compatible with a Base, Medium or Full Camera Link® camera,
the Xcelera-CL VX4 Full supports a wide variety of multi-tap area
and line scan colour and monochrome cameras.
The Xcelera-CL VX4 Full, features FPGA hardware processing platform
that combines ACU (Acquisition Control Unit), DTE (Data Transfer
Engine) and IPU (Image Processing Unit) and state-of-the-memory
architecture. As a result, its powerful, user- programmable embedded
processing architecture is capable of handling variety of high-performance,
complex, real-time image-processing topologies including iterative
processing loops.
While harnessing the power of field-programmable gate arrays, the
Xcelera-CL VX4 is also accessible to non-FPGA experts and OEMs not
only benefit from the real-time execution capabilities of FPGA but
also from IP preservation, shorter development cycles and being
able to leverage the simplicity of a standard, off-the-shelf processing
platform.
Although FPGA technology provides the ability to adapt to a variety
of high-speed, computer-intensive and real-time processing applications,
the Xcelera-CL VX4 hardware design has been built using standard
off-the-shelf components with long term availability.
