For
film-makers who want affordable quality in super-slow motion capture Renowned for their high-end, ultra-slow-motion products,
Vision Research's latest release caters to the budget-conscious Film and
TV maker by offering a choice of two attractively-priced high-speed models.
Both the VEO 640S and the VEO 340S include features for
Film / TV including on-camera controls, timecode in/out, 3G HD-SDI and HDMI
monitor outputs and other additional programmable I/O signal availability,
ruggedized connectors and compatibility with removable CFast
2.0 storage media. Additionally, the cameras' small 5" form factor,
together with the Abel Cine Essentials kit, enable a number of different
rigging options for portability and flexibility.
Available with a choice of three levels of on-board memory (18, 36 or 72
GB) and the C-Fast card, these two VEO models offer a a convenient and efficient
workflow for high pressure production film sets or mobile shots. Cines are
recorded to the camera's on-board RAM, trimmed and then saved to CFast media
which can be swapped out when full. This workflow eliminates downtime by
keeping the camera online, ready for the next capture. Multiple takes are
possible with the ability to segment RAM memory into up to 63 segments.
This allows fast and uninterrupted capture of multiple events without the
need to transfer video. The desired workflow will dictate which of the two
choices are viable.
With up to 72 GB RAM, both Phantom VEOs can capture more frames than most
comparable cameras in today's market. Depending on the type of shot, the
frame rate and resolution can be adjusted. For the VEO 640S, shoot 1400
fps at 2560 x 1600 or reduce the resolution to 1920 x 1080 for 2500 fps.
The VEO 340S can provide 800 fps at full resolution and 1100 fps at the
reduced resolution of 1920 x 1080. Many other variations to resolution and
frame rate are also available. Recording time at full resolution and maximum
speed for the VEO 640S is 8.5 seconds. For the VEO 340S, maximum recording
time is 15 seconds.
Lens mounts available include Nikon F/G, C-mount, PL-mount and Canon
EF (with electronic access to aperture and focus). Exposure Index range:
Mono 640032,000 D; Color 12506400 D. Built tough and rated
to withstand up to 100G shock. The VEO is offered at a lower price point
than Vision Research's other high-performance cameras

About
CFast
The CFast workflow is similar to the CineFlash module of the Phantom
Miro. Cine files are recorded first to RAM and then tarnsferred to the
card at a speed of 90MB/second. As with the Miro Cineflash the VEO CFast
card does not support Run/Stop mode or playback over video and must
be formatted NTFS. Because of this format, no special drivers are required
for downloading the cine files via Windows or Mac.
